How to Stabilize your RV

Stop the sway! Set up your RV for a comfortable stay by taking steps to minimize as much horizontal and vertical movement as possible.

You’ll need leveling jacks and blocks to reduce up and down motion, wheel chocks to stop tire movement, and stabilizers to reduce that rocking, side to side motion.

Step 1: Level your RV

Any easy step if your RV features an auto-leveling system, start by engaging your leveling jacks. If there’s a big difference in ground height from side to side, use RV Traveler’s Choice Leveling Blocks underneath your tires on the lower side. They’ll also provide extra stability and help balance the weight of your RV.

Step 2: Place wheel chocks in front of and behind your RV’s wheels.

Using wheel chocks will stop any wheel movement. The RV Traveler’s Choice version is made of durable, high-impact plastic, and has a cross-ribbed surface for extra grip. Position them firmly against the treads of your RV’s tires.

Step 3: Use stabilizers to stop any vertical movement.

Once your RV is level, the final step is to use stabilizers to eliminate any side-to-side sway. RV Traveler’s Choice scissor jacks go underneath the frame to stabilize the unit, minimizing any rocking.
